Labiaplasty is not an unusual or offbeat procedure to pursue
Labiaplasty is a procedure that women normally pursue to reduce either the labia minora (the skin surrounding the vaginal opening) or the labia majora which are the external folds of skin surrounding the structures of the vulva. Many women have enlarged labial skin which gets pinched and is painful during physical activity, sitting, and sexual intercourse. The skin can also get pinched in undergarments. This skin redundancy may occur secondary to pregnancy or may be a developmental phenomenon. Labiaplasty allows women to experience reduced discomfort during intercourse or athletics; to lessen discomfort from underclothing; to have better hygiene; and importantly, to improve cosmetic appearance and self esteem.
Labiaplasty is an outpatient surgical procedure performed under sedation and local anesthesia. After surgery, there may be some discomfort and swelling which usually subside and disappear within one to two weeks. Satisfaction is high in women who choose to undergo the procedure.
