Regaining Your Pre-Baby Body

A mommy makeover is a combination of restorative procedures designed to rejuvenate the body's shape and appearance. This popular approach addresses issues like loose, sagging skin and silhouette irregularities while also empowering women to reclaim their pre-pregnancy or pre-weight change physique, maybe even reaching better contours over baseline. It's particularly beneficial after childbirth, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, menopause, or natural aging. Typical regions addressed during a mommy makeover include the breasts, abdomen and torso, and genital regions.

By combining multiple cosmetic surgical procedures into a single session, the mommy makeover reduces overall recovery time, cost, and risk, making it an ideal option for individuals with busy lifestyles. When performed by a skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Shermak, a mommy makeover in Baltimore is a great choice for those seeking to boost their confidence and restore a youthful appearance

Am I the Ideal Candidate?

Good candidates for a mommy makeover in Baltimore are women who are in good health and who have lost a sense of shapely fullness in their breasts, along with their preferred abdominal strength and contour due to pregnancy and possible C-section surgery.

During your initial consultation, you will discuss with Dr. Michele Shermak what you would like to improve so she can understand your expectations and determine how to best achieve the desired result. A mommy makeover is customized to the patient’s desires and needs, so Dr. Shermak will work closely with you to learn about your goals, get to know your unique physique, and collaborate with you on the creation of a treatment plan that sees you enjoying your ideal results.

Procedures that can be done during a Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover typically includes several procedures, each addressing different areas of the body to help restore a pre-pregnancy figure. Here are some highlights of the procedures often involved:

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens abdominal muscles that may have separated during pregnancy.

Buttock Augmentation (Brazilian Butt Lift)

It enhances the shape and size of the buttocks using fat transfer and can help improve overall bodyproportion and contours in the buttock region

Liposuction

Removes stubborn fat deposits from various areas like the abdomen, thighs, hips, and arms. It also sculpts and contours the body for a slimmer appearance.

Breast Lift

Raises and reshapes sagging breasts for a more youthful appearance. It can be combined with augmentation for added volume

Labiaplasty

It reshapes and reduces the size of the labia for improved comfort and aesthetics. It can also address changes due to childbirth or aging.

Facial Surgical Procedures

Comprises eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), facelift, neck lift and fat transfers to refresh and restore lift and fullness in the face

Body Lift

Removes excess skin and tightens the underlying tissue in areas like the thighs, buttocks, and lower abdomen. This is ideal for patients with significant skin laxity

Dr. Shermak can customize each procedure to meet individual goals, providing a comprehensive approach to body rejuvenation after pregnancy and childbirth.

Your Recovery Period

Mommy makeover surgery tends to be performed on an outpatient basis, so you’ll be able to return home after your procedure, though you’ll need a friend to drive you home from our Baltimore surgery center. After your procedure is complete, it’s quite normal to experience temporary discomfort, swelling, numbness, and bruising.

You can expect to be up, about, and walking within hours of your surgery. Most of our patients are able to resume regular activities and return to low-impact activity after a single week. Heavy exercise and lifting are discouraged for a month. Routine, non-strenuous driving and errands are safe to resume within a week to 10 days after your surgery.

When is the best time to get a mommy makeover?

Mommy makeovers are best done once you’ve decided you don’t want more children.

How soon can I do a mommy makeover if I’m overweight now?

If you think you can lose weight reasonably, then it is best to achieve weight loss first and get to a stable weight for a period of at least a month. If significant weight loss is being considered, you may need a period of time for your body to stabilize nutritionally. During times of steep weight loss, healing may be impaired due to a lack of nutrients in the body.

If your weight is stable and you have attempted weight loss without success, Dr. Shermak will meet with you to see what can be achieved safely with surgery. Many women are stalled, and Dr. Shermak knows surgery may kickstart weight loss and a healthier lifestyle.

I am not happy with the results of a mommy makeover surgery performed elsewhere. What should I do?

Come see Dr. Shermak at her welcoming Baltimore office for an assessment of and potential revisions to your mommy makeover. She specializes in breast and body contouring surgery, having completed a fellowship focused on achieving optimal results for complex breast and body contouring situations related to pregnancy and significant weight loss. Dr. Shermak successfully addresses unsatisfactory outcomes that include asymmetry, contour irregularities, functional problems related to having surgery that was overdone or underdone, firm areas, and poor scarring.

What complementary procedures can be a part of a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover can be paired with noninvasive treatments such as facial fillers, wrinkle relaxers, facials, or CoolSculpting.

How soon after delivery can I have a mommy makeover?

Wait for six months after childbirth to ensure you’re fully recovered.

Is there a weight or BMI requirement for a mommy makeover?

Patients should be within 25 pounds of their ideal weight before having a mommy makeover. Weight fluctuations in either direction can alter tight, trim skin and body contours the mommy makeover provides.

What is the minimum recovery time for a mommy makeover?

One week for non-strenuous activity after breast augmentation and liposuction only, with the recovery period increasing with multiplying procedures. You should be able to drive within one to two weeks but may need to decrease the time you spend on your daily routine.

With surgical recovery, patients may get tired more easily. Also, an optimum surgical outcome may require less exertional activity for a period of time. Dr. Shermak will discuss the postoperative recovery period with you.

Your Recovery time will depend on the procedures you had, with times ranging from two weeks to a month.

How painful is the recovery after a mommy makeover?

Pain varies based on which procedures were performed. Many patients experience less pain than they anticipated.

When can I exercise again after my mommy makeover?

It may be one to two months before you can exercise vigorously again. It will probably take at least one month to get back to a regular physical workout. Depending on the surgical procedures you undergo, you may be able to return to a low-impact workout sooner than that.

How long should I wait to have sex after a mommy makeover?

You should wait between three to six weeks to have sex, depending on which procedures you have.

Will there be scars?

There will be scarring, as there is with any surgical procedure, but Dr. Shermak takes every precaution to minimize and hide scars.

What are the risks of a mommy makeover?

Like any surgery, a mommy makeover includes a risk of complications such as bleeding, infection, scarring, pain, and a change in sensation.
