What is Sculptra?
As we age, fullness of the face decreases. This is due to loss of fat and bone in the face over time. This leads to a deflated, older appearance. Some individuals have minimal cheek fullness which is hereditary and not related to aging changes. Sculptra is a product that may be injected into the face in a routine office visit to simulate a scar-less facelift. The product stimulates collagen recruitment and formation in the areas that are injected, leading to improved tissue fullness there. This results in increased facial fullness, lifting of the brow, and resolution of nasolabial folds and jowls. Sculptra is also a great solution for addressing congenital or post-traumatic facial asymmetry. Sculptra requires at least 3 office treatments to see optimal results, with refresher treatments recommended every 2 years.
Who is a good candidate for Sculptra?
Men and women, youthful and mature, who are looking to improve facial fullness and lift, or improved facial balance and harmony. Individuals who are not interested in surgery but are interested in rejuvenation are great candidates as well. During the initial consultation you will discuss with Dr. Shermak what you would like to improve so she can understand your expectations and determine how to best achieve your desired result. In a later visit, the Sculptra treatment will take place. At least 3 treatments are recommended for optimal results, with at least 6 weeks between treatments.
What is the recovery like after Sculptra treatment?
You may experience temporary swelling, numbness, and bruising that require head elevation, ice packs and massage with Arnica Montana herbal supplementation for several days. Most resume regular activities by the following day.
